What are merge tags in Mailchimp?

The Daylite App Marketing&Chat enables the connection of the newsletter service tool Mailchimp to Daylite.

Merge tags are used in many newsletters or similar mailings. Merge tags are separate fields (free fields) in Mailchimp. You can add these dynamically as you wish for each list.

Daylite recognizes the merge tags used and transmits certain information to Mailchimp. The information transmitted depends on the various merge tags.

In order for information about merge tags to be transmitted between Daylite and Mailchimp, you must first create the merge tags in Mailchimp and then assign them to the corresponding Daylite field in the Marketing&Chat settings.

• To create these, go to the Audience in Mailchimp and click on All contacts. Select the Settings tab and the Audience fields and Merge tags option.

You now have the option to edit your merge tags.

For example, you can create an individual salutation and transfer the recipient's name.

In addition, you can also transfer a person's birthday to Mailchimp; to do this, please use the Birthday field for a person in Daylite. This field does not contain a year and can therefore be transferred to Mailchimp.

To transfer merge tags to Daylite, please go to the settings of your Marketing&Chat plugin within Daylite and select the merge tags to be synchronized in the respective target group. Then assign the merge tags to the appropriate Daylite fields.

You then synchronize your audience.

Once you have successfully transferred the merge tags, you have the option of creating a new segment within your contacts.

To do this, go to Mailchimp under Audience -> All contacts and select the option Create new segment

In the segment filter that opens, you can now create a filter, for example to send a newsletter only to customers who have the keyword VIP.
