In this article you will learn how to subscribe to external calendars in Daylite.
Subscribed calendars are external calendars that you can add to Daylite. This is done either via the CalDAV account of the calendar or directly via the URL of the calendar.
Why should I add a subscribed calendar?
If you use calendars like iCloud, Google or other calendars, you can quickly add them to Daylite so you can see all your appointments in one place.
Add an iCloud, Google, or other CalDAV calendar
Note: Before you start, set up your iCloud/Google/CalDAV calendar by going to the Internet Accounts section of System Preferences.
To add a calendar account to Daylite, you must first give Daylite full disk access:
- Open System Preferences on your Mac.
- Navigate to Security&Privacy -> Privacy -> Full Disk Access.
- Unlock the lock at the bottom left.
- Activate the box in front of the Daylite icon.
After you added the subscribed calendar to Internet Accounts, add the calendars to Daylite by following these steps:
- Select Daylite -> Settings.
- Click Calendar Sharing.
- Select the In Daylite tab.
- Click Add account and select the account you want to add.
- Enter the password or application-specific password when using the account's 2-factor authentication and click Add.
After the calendar account has been added, you can now select which calendars of the desired account should be displayed by checking the box next to their name. You can also specify a color for the appointments in a calendar for better clarity.
Important: Using 2-factor authentication
Two-step authentication adds an additional level of security to your account that is required for iCloud and strongly recommended for Google Accounts. Once you've enabled two-factor authentication in your iCloud or Google Account, you can create an application-specific password for calendar sharing.
For instructions on how to create an application-specific password for your iCloud account, see a separate article.
For steps how to create an app password for your Google Account.
Be sure to remove old Daylite app passwords from your Google Account as they may affect the authentication of your calendar subscription.
Now use the application-specific password when adding your calendar subscription.
Adding a subscribed calendar via a URL
To add a calendar subscription via a URL, proceed as follows:
- Select Daylite -> Settings
- Click Calendar Sharing
- Select the In Daylite tab
- Click Add Account, select Subscription from URL and enter the calendar URL and click Add
- You can then specify a color for the calendar appointments display
Restrictions for subscribed calendars
All appointments from subscribed calendars cannot be changed in Daylite. If you want to delete, edit or create new appointments for the subscribed calendar, you must do this via the web interface of the calendar service or another calendar application.
Synchronizing new changes can take up to 15 minutes, depending on how often the calendar is synchronized with other services.
All subscribed calendars added to Daylite do not appear on the iPhone or iPad in Daylite. If you want to see all your calendars on your iPhone or iPad in one place, you can share your Daylite calendar.
